Electronic Assembly

An electronic assembler is responsible for assembling various electrical and electronic equipment. This may also involve:

  • Reading and interpreting instructions
  • Assembling parts and tools
  • Fitting electronic components together

As for responsibilities, commonly seen requirements shown in job descriptions may include some or all of the following:

  • Assemble materials
  • Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, reports, and work orders
  • Inspect wiring installations, assemblies, and circuits
  • Assemble electrical or electronic systems or support structures and install components using rivets, bolts, soldering, or micro-welding equipment
  • Adjust or repair electrical equipment
  • Correct defects
  • Test products for performance and meeting specifications
  • Pack finished products for shipment

The following skills and experience would benefit an individual looking to find work in the electronic assembly field:

  • Excellent fine motor skills
  • Good vision, including the ability to focus on items that are close to the eyes
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read and follow a variety of instructions

Along with these requirements, there may be some physical demands expected of the job as well, including:

  • The ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Regularly being able to lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Use your hands and fingers to handle and control objects, tools, or controls
  • May occasionally be required to walk, reach, kneel, or crouch

In order to become an electronic assembler, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Some experience in manufacturing is also an asset.
