QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 15 years of work experience EPCM office and/or operating facility

Valid driver' s license and passport

Valid work authorization for Canada

   

PREFERRED SKILLS

Diploma in Design and Drafting or Engineering Technology, Mechanical or Structural
Executed projects in ammonia, urea, mineral processing, power , oil & gas and specialty chemical processes
Experience managing a team of designers

Willingness to work casual overtime

Requirements

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Reporting to the Principal Design Lead, this office-based Senior Design Lead/ Drafting Checker guides development the piping and structural design of industrial pressure vessel and piping projects in chemical (ammonia, urea), specialty chemical (polymer production), power, copper processing, and oil and gas projects. The role manages and provides feedback to a team of designers with respect to piping, equipment, structural steel and concrete. In their daily assignments, the successful candidate may:

Apply strong working knowledge of ASM E, NFPA and API industry standards

Demonstrate strong capabilities using and checking against laser scanning data in the 3D design environment

Mentor direct reports in 3D modeling, work flow and deliverable production

Collaborate with design team to generate solutions to challenging designs

Actively discuss and understand design intent on packages submitted for checking

Check drafting correctness of drawings such as P&ID's, PFD's, Isometrics, Site Plan and Section views, detail drawings, assembly drawings

Produce 2D sketches to illustrate critical checking dimensions and feedback

Communicate checking comments to design team constructively and generate agreement on the feedback.

Participate in review of vendor equipment drawings

Take into account the piping, electrical,instrumentation, civil, structural discipline aspects in plant design and independently direct the appropriate designers' work

Provide feedback to Project Managers on project man hour estimates and schedules

Track team progress on task assignments and hours consumed and take corrective action if necessary

Track deliverable status, and maintain project drawing numbering and re-visioning

Discuss employee performance with the Principal Design Lead

Assist the Principal Design Lead in supervisory responsibilities such as initial project setups, design planning, work product standardization, and cold eye reviews of in-progress designs

Review and critique proposed changes to engineering and design standards, policies, or details

  Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good design practices

Occasionally peer review staffs' effectiveness at applying and adhering to these standards

Participate in recruiting, interviewing and evaluation of prospective new hires

Present 3D models to clients at critical review points

Verify closeout of comments from model reviews, client feedback and internal stakeholder reviews

Back check all stakeholder comments are drafted

Provide input to construction work package instructions

Travel periodically to client facilities for project review meetings

 

Software that may be used in performing assigned duties includes:

Proficiently working in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Power Point

Editing and viewing 2D CAD files AutoCAD

Editing and viewing 3D CAD designs and laser scan data in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Autodesk Recap
