Technical Services Representative (TSR) (Flexible Packaging)
Type: Full Time, Permanent
Location, Brantford, ON
Salary: $90k - $110k + Benefits

This company is a rapidly growing international manufacturer operating in the Petrochemicals and Plastics Industries. We seek a Research Engineer / Scientist to lead development of new products and processes in the broad area of polyolefins.  



 The Technical Services Representative (Flexible Packaging)  is responsible for responding to technical inquiries from the customer as well as leading related product development, customer trials and qualifications. The TSR works in tandem with the Market Manager-Flexible Packaging and Regional Sales Managers (RSM) to provide technical support to existing and new customers.   The TSR is responsible for visiting customers to provide technical support, coordinating and performing follow up analysis and product development, preparing technical reports and product samples, and presenting technical analysis.  This position acts as the primary technical resource for flexible packaging markets. Position Description:

  • Coordinate testing, qualifications and industry approvals to meet technical and customer needs.  Conduct customer trials.   Suggest and qualify alternate raw material suppliers.   Suggest and coordinate product development efforts with Research Scientists/Engineers
  • Provide exceptional technical service to ensure customer contract requirements are met.  This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Identify quality control issues and provide resolution. 
  • Increase customer relationships through continuous customer interaction and visits.  
  • Identify customer and market needs and propose and champion development projects to the Market Manager.   Introduce new products to existing customers directly and through industry conferences and events. Qualify new products via field trials at customer facilities.  
  • Confer with customers, sales and product management to assess product and equipment needs to determine technical requirements to promote the sale of company products, and to provide sales support.
  • Work closely with customer service representative to fulfill customer requirements.   Proficient in CRM application to extract information and keep current on customer activities.  
  • Maintain and ensure company meets regulatory compliance requirements through various government agencies and associations (e.g. FDA, MSDS, DS, CONEG, etc.)   Processes the necessary paperwork and compliance coding.
  • Develop, present, or respond to proposals for specific customer requirements, including request for proposal responses and industry-specific solutions. Writes technical reports and papers as needed based on customer samples and technical product analysis.   Diagnose potential problems.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.   
  • Responsible for adherence to travel policy guidelines and booking of travel arrangements. Submission of accurate and timely business expense reports.
  • Extensive overnight travel is required.  50% travel.  
  • This position reports to the Technical Services Manager
  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree in chemical, materials or polymer engineering or science or equivalent field experience.
  • A combination of sales, technical service or processing experience in polyolefin flexible packaging is required.   Should have in-depth knowledge of customers conversion processes (blown and cast film extrusion) including industry standards, testing requirements, qualifications procedures, formulations, film structures and performance properties of the materials.  
  • Minimum of 5-7 years technical experience specifically in flexible packaging at a film converter, and/or materials and equipment suppliers.  
  • Exceptional knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling technical products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English and Spanish is required.  This  position will cover several sales territories including Mexico.
