Your day-to-day

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot and otherwise maintain critical process control systems utilizing PLCs, HMIs and other intelligent electronic devices.
  • Learn and understand the technology involved in cold rolling, annealing and temper rolling sheet steel and apply appropriate solutions to maximize operating efficiencies.
  • Work with personnel from varied disciplines in a manufacturing environment toward continual improvement in production capabilities.
  • Analyze manufacturing process improvement requests and design technical solutions (hardware and software).
  • Design, develop, test and implement applications / systems. Train users. Provide detailed documentation.
  • Support the critical production systems in a timely fashion to maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption.
  • Off-hours, on-call response to high-priority issues is expected. Occasional after hours commissioning of new code or systems is required.

What you bring to the table - Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or community college diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with programming PLCs is required. Manufacturing industry experience is preferred.
  • The job is primarily focused on programming and troubleshooting Level 1 control systems. The core technologies used in this role are General Electric/Alstom Alspa 80MT, HPCi and RXi PLCs, ControlLogix PLCs and Power Flex drives, SAF PLCs and drives. Experience using the core technologies or willingness to learn them will be favored.
  • The candidate will also be required to learn about systems that communicate with the PLCs (e.g. ABB Shapemeter, Kelk tensiometers, NDC Xray electronics) in order to be able to support their interfaces to the PLCs.
  • Experience with communication protocols (e.g., Remote I/O, Modbus over TCP/IP) is necessary.
  • Experience programming HMIs is necessary. FactoryLink and FT View are the existing HMI development software packages used.
  • The ability to comprehend and update AutoCAD electrical drawings and schematics are necessary skills.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a reliable car
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Job Skills and Knowledge

  • General knowledge of drives and motors.
  • General knowledge of relays, sensors, and data acquisition devices.
  • Knowledge of AGC (automatic gauge control) would be an asset.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities are required.
  • Strong verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
