Job Description

Our client is in the in Automotive Industry and they are looking to hire for the position of Welding Engineer.

 Title: Production Engineering Specialist – Welding Engineer

Location: Stratford, ON
Type; Full Time Permanent

Pay Rate: Based on Experience

Reports to: Assistant Manager, Production Engineering

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and control welding activities during process development and commissioning stages to optimize line throughput while still maintaining customer weld specifications.
  • Develop welding techniques and procedures to solve equipment and manufacturing problems related to resistance (spot & projection) welding and GMAW welding.
  • Optimize welding parameters to eliminate or minimize spatter, reduce rework and scrap.
  • Conduct research and evaluate new developments in the welding technology field for implementation to FIO’s current weld processes.
  • Develop and create Predictive and Preventative Maintenance systems related to welding parameters and welding
  • Create, maintain and enhance all welding documents for FIO Resistance, Mig and Laser weld cells.
  • Provide technical welding guidance and support to Maintenance and PE teams.
  • Utilize engineering practices, and principles to optimize process parameters including, cycle time reduction, line balancing, error proofing, welding optimization, and other tools of lean manufacturing.
  • Observe internal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify, and initiate opportunities for process improvement.
  • Determine requirements/modifications required to equipment for process change/engineering changes (ECI).
  • Planning, installation, and commissioning of new equipment by developing delivery, and installation schedules.  
  • Direct “Model Launch Teams” as required to achieve goals, and Targets of project.
  • Develop concepts and formalizes to the point that the supplier can bid, and complete design on both new/existing equipment.
  • Write specifications for equipment, obtain supplier bids, and write purchase orders, and supplier contracts.
  • Responsible for preparation of cost reduction proposals on production, and maintenance consumables.
  • Provides guidance /directs Maintenance TMs as required during projects or during major repairs.
  • Conduct PFMEA for Poke-yokes, and system controls to ensure functionality with cross functional departments
  • Direct contractors, and trades people as necessary in performing related work.
  • Obtain necessary permits, and approvals from regulating bodies such as the Ministry of Environment, Ontario electrical safety inspection, TSSA, etc.
  • Obtain pre-start health & safety reviews for adherence to OHSA.
  • Produces detailed designs, drawings, and documents for various installations using AutoCAD & SolidWorks.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of FIO’s Environmental Policy and participate in programs that enhance environmental performance.    Identify, and communicate any potential non-conformances.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the significant environmental impacts of your work activities; follow work instructions to ensure positive environmental performance is sustained.   Understand the consequences of delineating from them.   
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the EPRP (Emergency Preparedness Response Plan).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Engineering Degree or (3yr) Diploma in one of the following; Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding engineering with a minimum of five (5+) years previous manufacturing engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Proactive, and self-motivated with strong initiative to make improvements in systems, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills including written, and verbal.
  • Experience with automated welding, and robotics is an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
  • Sound judgment in decision making and establishing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
  • Ability to support overtime as required.
