Job Description

Our client is a manufacturer in the food industry that provides service to retail, food service and industrial markets and they are looking to hire for the position of Facility Supervisor.

 Will also consider (Production Supervisor/Operation Supervisor)

Title: Assistant to Plant Manager (Facilities Supervisor)  

Location: Toronto, ON

Shift:   Days (Monday to Friday)

Salary: $50k-$60k

Works with the Plant Manager to achieve the prescribed results of the plant with responsibility for organizing, planning, directing and controlling line manufacturing in accordance with H&S, quality and production standards. This position also has full responsibility for all process performance indicators including raw material usage, yields, labour hours, bag weights, etc. This position requires maximum presence on the plant floor.

  • Utilize GMPs and lean manufacturing practices to optimize production.
  • Problem solving of production issues and concerns.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment to meet deadlines.
  • Food safety, HACCP program and allergen management.
  • Commitment to quality and food safety.
  • Daily inventory and stock rotation of fresh perishable and frozen products (FIFO).
  • Production Reporting - monitor, complete, and maintain efficient and accurate records as needed. Complete all forms and records as set out by HACCP.
  • Comply with company health and safety policies and practices including the wearing of PPE, lockout / tag out procedures.
  • Resolves safety hazards, equipment and QA issues in a timely manner and report to Plant Manager.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, clean and sanitized work area at all times.
  • Works to attain productivity and reduced down time - contributes suggestions for work process improvements.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses product or processing problems in a timely manner.
  • Become process expert for the operation.
  • Line set up and successful shift start on time and in a safe manner.
  • Enforce all company values and policies (incl. Harassment & Violence in the Workplace, Discipline, Early & Safe Return to Work, Attendance Management, Personal Conduct, etc.)
  • Ensure building and development of cohesive line leadership teams
  • Ensure all employees work in a safe manner with and through the Lead Hands
  • Ensure all equipment is safe to operate
  • Conduct monthly workplace inspection tour as required.
  • Conduct full investigations promptly (Discipline, H&S, Attendance Management. etc)
  • Recommend appropriate discipline, support and deliver discipline decisions.
  • Investigate and complete all accident reports immediately. Ensures corrective action is applied immediately (provide/perform first aid and/or ensure employee receives medical aid)
  • Ensure production standards are maintained including quantity and quality.
  • Control of material usage and line downtime.
  • Ensure production employees are trained in production and health &safety
  • Ensure HACCP Compliance.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure quality of products.
  • Be highly responsive to CFIA Canadian Food Inspection Agency Inspector.
  • Ensure all visitors to the plant are monitored and follow all rules.
  • Ensure all safety regulations and GMP’s are maintained i.e. Approved safety shoes, hearing protection, hairnets etc.
  • Ensure reports are clear, accurate and informative. (All needed data to reflect the day’s events must be recorded. All comments should describe the facts, action taken and results)
  • Supervise the line workers and machine operators to ensure that a safe product at the required quality is being produced as per HACCP, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manual and specifications
  • Responsible for production records verification and closing the incident reports.
  • Overseeing and managing the plant environment to ensure that a product safe environment is maintained

 University / College degree or equivalent in experience.

  • 2 – 5 years related experience in a food, pharmaceutical or automated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) a must.
  • Flexibility - You can work any shift including weekends and longer hours daily hours.
  • Good mathematical skills required.
  • Knowledge of computers is an asset - Microsoft Office – Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capable of meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Able to work in a refrigerated environment.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with ever changing priorities to meet customer demands.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Experience in managing employees from multiple ethnicities.
  • Strong planning, analytical, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead meetings with hourly employees.
  • Excellent Leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of Labour and Health & Safety Regulations.
  • First Aid Certification.
